Salinity Resource Centre Farmers led programme
to address the issues of salinity ingress:

Area & Coverage:
120 villages of Talaja taluka, Bharuch district, Gujarat
Role of VIKAS:
VIKAS /SAVE with local farmers and institutions (Lok Bharti, Sanosara and Lok Shalas) is creating knowledge cum agric service infrastructure.
Specific responsibilities:
- Set up Knowledge cum agri service centres which would generate greater awareness among farmers about the issues of increasing salinity and its impact.
- Train and initiate salinity soldiers as extension workers
- Set up Kishan Shalas around demonstration plots
Till date following activities have been carried out during last 15 months: |
- About 1,000 participated in various activities which include demonstration plots, inputs purchase (wheat, ground nut, Bajari), output marketing & talukas level discussions.
- Successfully introduced low water requiring crops like – wheat & Safflower
- Established market linkage for mangoes & maze
- Carried out consultations with farmers in three clusters to set up farmer owned, farmer controlled input out marketing services linked with organising knowledge based services through demonstration plots, weather & market information, coustomised agronomical services – IPM & ICM etc.
- Designed value processing & marketing enterprises based on local crops including, mangoes, corn & onion to be initiated as producer owned, producer controlled, professionally managed business entities (similar to SABRAS).
